Erskine
SGN commissioned our services to identify and install an innovative alternative to the gas pipeline that utilised the Erskine Bridge to cross the River Clyde.
The project involved:
- Identifying a route for crossing the River Clyde using a HDD solution
- Removal of redundant pipework within 3m of live pipework
- Installing new pipework while existing lines remained live
Key considerations for this project included severe time constraints for transitional shutdown (seven days between April – Nov) and the need to avoid existing infrastructure. This infrastructure included: a World Heritage Site and multiple Scheduled Monuments; major road/rail links; residential and commercial property; nesting bird sites; water/gas infrastructure; and, bridge piers/piled foundations. The length of the new pipework was over 2.0kms.
